About Oma Iwere Itsekiri Organization Inc, NYNJ.
Oma Iwere Itsekiri Organization Inc., New York, New Jersey (Oma Iwere NY/NJ) is a charitable, cultural organization formed in August 1990 by a group of well-meaning Itsekiri sons and daughters in New York City to bring together all Itsekiri people resident in the tri state areas of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut.
Our members are dedicated to uplifting the Itsekiri people and the Itsekiri nation. Over the years, we work assiduously to empower the underserved people in our homeland, and the diaspora.
Among our goals and objectives is promoting, preserving, and celebrating our Itsekiri rich cultural heritage.
We celebrate our uniqueness as founding members of Ugbajo Itsekiri USA, Inc., the umbrella organization for all Itsekiri associations in the United States. Oma Iwere NYNJ is actively involved in the organization’s activities and affairs.
Membership
Membership to Oma Iwere NYNJ is open to all Itsekiri adults from 18 years old with at least one Itsekiri parent. Like most organized societies, eight-member Executive Committee officers manage and governs the affairs and activities of Oma Iwere NYNJ. These officers are elected to office every two years. They comprise of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Publicity Secretary, and a Social Secretary.

Our Causes
Since its formation, Oma Iwere NYNJ has been championing noble, and worthy humanitarian causes. Oma Iwere NYNJ charitable activities have positively impacted the lives of Itsekiri, and other inhabitants of Warri Kingdom. Amongst Oma Iwere NYNJ notable charitable undertakings are:
Humanitarian
Relief.
Assistance with humanitarian relief for the resettlement, and rehabilitation of displaced Itsekiri in the aftermath of the Warri crisis. Oma Iwere NY/NJ, in conjunction with other Itsekiri affiliates of Ugbajo Itsekiri USA, Inc., sent substantial relief materials worth over $10,000.00 relocating and resettling displaced Itsekiri people between 2001 to 2004.
Promoting Our
Cultural Heritage.
As part of embracing and promoting our cultural heritage, Oma Iwere NY/NJ teaches and encourages its' children and young adults about the value and importance of adopting and using the Itsekiri language, and cultural practices.We make sure our history as a people is understood by all of our members. We are a people, from one nation, we speak one language, and we are led by one king!
Medical Supplies
Donation.
In 2006, Oma Iwere NY/NJ Inc., in collaboration with Itsekiri National Association of Washington, DC – Baltimore CMSA, Inc., donated medical supplies to Warri General Hospital in Delta State, Nigeria. This partnership was part of Ugbajo Itsekiri USA, Inc.’s medical mission and support for the healthcare delivery system in Warri metropolitan city.
